Heritage tours of ex RAAF Base Rathmines

Visit Australia's heritage-listed World War II seaplane base.



Discover the vital importance of the ex RAAF Rathmines base during World War II and especially the key role played by the Catalina seaplanes and their brave crews.

This is a fascinating and little-known chapter of our national history! 

Rathmines Catalina Association offers guided heritage tours of the base for bus groups of up to 50 people

OPTION 1 - Morning tea, illustrated historical talk, bus tour with our guide on board, followed by lunch.

  • Morning tea on arrival, in the former Officers' Mess (now the Bowling Club).
  • A talk about the history of the base during World War II and the men and women who served - illustrated with a presentation of original photos.
  • A visit to the nearby Catalina Memorial site - a short walk away, overlooking Catalina Bay. Depending on weather conditions and guests' mobility.
  • Bus tour of the base with our knowledgeable guide on board.
  • Two course lunch. Refreshments are available from the bar.
  • A keepsake brochure detailing the base and its layout in 1944.

PRICING

The standard group tour prices are:

  • Option 1: $40 per person
  • Option 2: $25 per person
